Large margins. Dogs ears. A few creases and a couple of short tears to the margins. A couple of small spots. Tape along the fold at the verso.
A map from "Atlas von Amerika" (Atlas of the Americas) by C. F. Weiland and Georg Hassel published 1823-1829. An unusal concept with text surrounding the map at the sides. This style was copied from Carey and Leas American atlas published in Philadelphia in 1822, which in turn was based on a french atlas by LeSage (a pseudonym for the french noble man Las Cases). The german atlas follows the Carey and Lea maps quite closely. "Atlas von Amerika" was planned to be published in 51 maps, only 46 are known. Loose maps are regarded as extremely rare A separate text volume was also published which seems to be a translation of the american original. (Facts from; Espenhorst, Peterman´s Planet pp.156-160).
