Oblong 4:o. (21 x 28 cm). 2 volumes in 24 parts (some wrapperws contains 2 parts and one wrapper contain 4 parts). Volume I: 180 pp. (including printed title) + 48 steel engravings + 2 advertisment leafs at the end of parts 6 and 7-8; Volume II: Printed title (engraved title missing) + 184 pp + (2 pp. contents) + 48 steel engravings.

Original decotrative wrappers with title at the front and contents at the back.
Some foxing to the wrappers. A couple of wrappers with more foxing and some waterstains. Spines torn and partly defective. Some chipping to the edges. Most of the first volume with some interior foxing, but most plates are clean. The second volume with occasional foxing inside, but mostly clean. Offsetting from the plates in both volumes.

This is an abridged swedish edition of the german monumental work "Meyer´s Universum". It shows wonderful views from around the world like Calcutta, Quebec, Rome, Moscow etc. Many views of old castles, churches, natural wonders and beautiful vistas. These are the two first volumes (of six) published in swedish. The remaining volumes were published 1840. 1841, 1849 and 1851. The engravings were selected from the german work and the text was partly translated and partly specially written for the swedish edition by Carl August Nicander and others.
