[Map] Geographisches Institut (publisher)

Mexico und die Republiken von Central-America.

Weimar. [Ca. 1860] 58 x 72 cm including margins. Folds once. Hand colored in outline.

Good margins. Splits along the folds, just into the map area at the lower side. A few stains, fraying and tears to the margins. Slight browning to the map.

A large map of Mexico and the republics of Central America. The map was issued just about a decade after Mexico lost the northern parts of the country to the expanding United States. In the defining wars of the 1840s Mexico lost what is now Texas, California, Arizona, New Mexico, parts of Colorado, Utah and Nevada. In 1853 Mexico sold what is now the southern part of Arizona to the United States. The borders of 1853 are still the same.
